Homemade Apple Pie Filling

This easy Homemade Apple Pie Filling is the perfect dessert to whip up and impress your family. The filling is so good it might not even make it inside of the pie crust.

My local grocery store has been selling little bags of sweet honey crisp apples, so I have been keeping them in stock. I was craving something sweet so I starting looking in my refrigerator at my ingredients. I decided a pie would be something easy I could make.

Is Apple Pie Filling an Easy to Make?

Of course, most people don’t think of pie as an “easy” dessert, but it can be. I like to make my recipes as simple as possible, and work with what I have. I always keep a couple of store bought pie crusts on hand because they are very versatile, so apple pie it is.

Best Apples For Apple Pie Filling

Let’s not put the cart before the horse. To have a pie, you must first make the filling. Like I said, I used Honey Crisp apples, but you can your whatever apple you like best. Just make sure you peel them. I am not a fan of apple peels in my pie.

Other apples that are perfect for pie filling are granny smith, Fuji, and pink ladies. But really any apples will do. So use what you have most readily available.

As you can see, my recipe does not have a liquid. I like a thicker, more caramelly filling, but if your filling is too thick, just add a splash of water. Follow the 6 easy steps below, and you will be on your way to impressing your family.

This Homemade Apple Pie Filling is pretty darn good on its own, but it’s even better in a pie crust. You will have to check out how I turned a store-bought crust into something extra special, in my Apple Pie post.
