New Year Closet Organization

Here’s to cleaning our way into the New Year starting with Closet Organization tips and tricks.

New Year, New Me. Yeah right. I am all for setting goals, but I don’t think it takes a new year to start. I do however, feel like after the holidays, my closet could definitely use a declutter. Check out my tips below for creating a functional closet space.

Hanging vs. Folding

One recent change I have made in my closet is folding my sweaters. Since my closet renovation, I have plenty of shelves for storage. I decided to take out some decor, and stack my sweaters. I feel like this makes the most sense for me, especially in the winter. My sweaters are all out where I can see them, and are not taking up precious hanging space. But this isn’t the best part.

I absolutely hate when my hangers leave weird stretched out places on the shoulders of my sweaters. Folding my sweaters has solved the awkward, nipple on the shoulder, problem. If you know, you know. Not cute.

Speaking of hangers, I decided to switch out all the colored, mismatched hangers I have collected over the years, to plain white ones. I use the cheap plastic ones because they are my personal favorite. The velvet hangers just don’t do it for me. The fact that I no longer have lime green and hot pink hangers really makes me feel like a true grown up.

What to do with all my shoes?

A real issue for me has always been shoe storage. Too many shoes, I mean, is that really an issue? Well my husband thinks it is, so he very kindly bought me a shoe rack, ON WHEELS. I can take this bad baby any where. Even up and down stairs. Trust me. I’ve done it. Twice.

I usually rotate out my shoes for the summer and winter since I simply have too many, but this rack is definitely a much better option than throwing them all in tubs, and constantly searching for mates.

Accessorize

I have tons of accessories, and like to keep the things I use most often, out where they are easily accessed. This jewelry organizer was under $20.00 on Amazon, and is the perfect spot for me to keep my costume jewelry on display, while still being organized.

I think my favorite way to accessorize is hats. Bad hair day, hat. Cold outside, hat. Sun in my eyes, hat. You get the point. I love the idea of hanging my cutest hats on the wall as decor. They are out of the way, not taking up space on my shelves, and I don’t have to worry about them getting squished. Win, win.

I hope my New Year Closet Organization tips give you some ideas for making your closet more functional, and most importantly, more beautiful. So get creative, if I can make a hat cute home decor, think of all the things you can do!
