DIY Pedestal Bowl
This easy DIY Pedestal Bowl is a Dollar Tree DIY using flour paint. I love the look of the painted vase I made, and thought a tiered bowl would be a similar, cute but functional piece of decor.
What will you need?
You will need a bowl, and a cup or candle holder. I used a Dollar Tree bowl from the garden section, and a candle holder. You can choose different heights and sizes to customize it to what you like best.
I also picked up hot glue, E6000 adhesive, paint brushes, spray primer, and my favorite craft paint. I went with neutral colors that would match the decor in several of my rooms.
Where to start?
First, you will need to glue the base of your stand to the bowl. I tried just hot glue at first, and it did not stick. My tip would be to add the E6000 glue first, then add the hot glue. Make sure you work quickly after the hot glue is applied because once it starts getting cold it will not stick.
Next, sit something heavy inside the bowl to weigh it down, and let the glue dry for 20 minutes, or so. After your glue is dry, add a coat or 2 of primer. Once the primer is set, you are ready to start painting.
Let the fun begin!
I mixed my base paint (chalk paint) with equal parts flour, and applied 2-3 coats. This will give you a faux pottery looking base, with a rough texture. You can use any colors you like, and whatever looks best with your decor. I think black paint would also look amazing.
After my base color was completely dry, I used a clean paint sponge to add some darker colors. I took my slightly darker shades, and used a small amount of paint to dry brush all over the bowl and base. This really brought out the texture even more. You can add more or less paint to get your desired look, then let it dry and you are done!
